WHAT IS THE MONGOLIA CHARITY RALLY?
10,000 miles of pot-holes, bandits and dodgy suspension…
Oh, and it’s all for charity
The Mongolia Charity Rally is a pan-continental drive across five mountain ranges, two deserts and more barren and inhospitable lands than you care to shake a gear-stick at. Starting in London, the final destination is the capital of Mongolia, beyond the Gobi desert, Ulaanbaatar.
All teams have certain criteria to fulfil in order to enter The Mongolia Charity Rally 2008
Each team MUST raise a minimum of £1000 for charity.
Each team is entirely responsible for its own safe passage to Mongolia.
On top of all this there are no support cars. If I break down, I have to make my own way to the finish line, some how. Hopefully I am beginning to paint a rough picture of what this feat entails.
All the vehicles that make it to the end will be donated to a charitable foundation in Mongolia. The choice of vehicle is in my hands - I could make it hard and comical with something entirely unsuitable, or take something more serious, allowing for more off-road experience, and giving the charity something really worthwhile at the end.
We are having a fundraising supper at the Olive Grove cafe in Weymouth sponsored entirely by Adrian and the Olive Grove so the whole ticket price will go to the fund.
I know the picture is a little fuzzy , so if any one can tell me how to sharpen it please do.
Please note that the Mongolia Charity Rally is not the same event as the Mongol Rally organised by the League of Adventurists International Ltd. The Mongolia Charity Rally is organised by Go Help, a UK charity set up and staffed by unpaid trustees who have all either organised rallies to Mongolia or participated in them in the past.
Go Help was created to promote an ethical model of charity rallying, ensuring that funds raised for charitable activities go to charity with little or no provision for administrative costs, and to ensure that rally enthusiasts who want to take part in charity rallies can do so at a lower cost than is otherwise available through rallies that are run for profit.
